Chapter 5 Application Deployment for

Introduction

This chapter describes new features in Windows CE 6.0 including how to package applications, and procedures for
deploying applications onto the MC9190-G.

Packaging

Packaging combines an application's executable files into a single file, called a package. This makes it easier to
deploy and install an application to the MC9190-G. Package new applications and updates, such as new DLL files,
as CAB files, then deploy them to the MC9190-G. Refer to the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 Help file for information
on CAB files.

Software Installation on Development PC

To develop applications to run on the MC9190-G, use one or both of the following:
Enterprise Mobility Developer Kit (EMDK) for C
Platform Software Developer Kit (Platform SDK) for MC9190-G
The EMDK for C is a development tool used to create native C and C++ applications for the Motorola MC9190-G.
It includes documentation, header files (.H), and library files (.LIB) for native code application development that
targets Motorola value-add APIs.
The Windows CE Platform SDK for MC9100c60 is used in conjunction with the EMDK for C to create Windows CE
applications for the MC9190-G. The Platform SDK installs a new Windows CE device type and its associated
libraries onto the development PC.
The software requirements to use the EMDK for C are:
Microsoft Windows XP 32-bit Edition or Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit Edition
Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 or higher. (only for Windows XP, Windows Vista has its own Mobile Device Center)
Windows CE
