ORIENTATION SCHEME FOR ASSEMBLY OF THE PISTON AND
CONNECTING ROD IN TO CYLINDER:
22.- PISTON HALF OPEN LIP ORIENTED TOWARD OIL INJECTOR.
23.-UPPER ENGRAVED PART OF THE PISTON ORIENTED
TOWARDS THE ENGINE FLYWHEEL

• That number in connecting rod agrees with number in cover.
• That end gaps of each piston ring are 120° out of phase
from other two per ring.

• That upper engraved part (23) of each piston is oriented
23
towards engine flywheel or that piston half open lip (22)
found at the piston side is oriented towards oil injectors.
• Install assemblies constituted by piston and connecting
rods by pairs : (1
CAUTION:
When using the same bearings again install them
in the same order and position than when they were
removed.

Main bearing clearance
14) To measure clearance between bearings and main journal,
do as follows:
• Clean carefully main journals and bearing taking away oil
residues.
• Put the main journals to be tested in the L.D.C. position,
except number 4 which must be in T.D.C.position due to
assembling difficulties of the bearing cap.
• Place a piece of wire gauge (27) to full width an journal (28)
to be checked.
NOTE:
• Length of wire gauge must cover width of journals
approximately.
• Do not turn crankshaft once wire gauge has been
installed.
• Check on journal number 4 must be done with its
piston in T.D.C due to difficulties in the assembly of
the bearing cap.
