Airbag Systems

Precautions for the repair

All operations on airbag and pretensioner systems must be carried out by qualified trained
personnel. The airbags have a pyrotechnic gas generator, with an ignition module and bag
which must not be separated. The pretensioners have a pyrotechnic gas generator and an
igniter which must, under no circumstances, be separated. Never handle the pyrotechnic
systems (pretensioners or airbags) near to a source of heat or naked flame - they may be
triggered. Always replace any pyrotechnic system that has fallen on the ground or shows signs
of impact. Always replace any restraint system that shows deterioration (tears or damage to
the strap, damaged appearance parts, cover unclipped, damaged clips or indexing brackets,
etc.).

Triggering of the Safety Systems

Check the safety systems using the Diagnostic tool:
- After an accident, - after theft or attempted theft of the vehicle,
The side impact sensors are fragile. When working inside the door box section, protect the
sensor in order to prevent any accidental damage (cardboard and adhesive). After detection of
an impact, the airbag computer is definitively locked and the « airbag fault » warning light
illuminates on the instrument panel. The airbag computer and the side impact sensors must
always be replaced.
