Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a
hoist. See Hoisting i n the Lubrication and Mainte-
nance section of this manual, for the required l i f t i n g
procedure to be used for this vehicle.

Remove front wheel and t i r e assemblies.
(4)
Remove the front hub/bearing mounting, bolt
attaching the brake flex hose bracket to the steering
knuckle (Fig. 64).

(5) Remove the brake flex hose to caliper banjo
bolt (Fig. 65). Remove the brake flex hose, banjo bolt
and seal washers from the caliper.

(6) Remove the 2 bolts (Fig. 66) attaching the disc
brake caliper to the steering knuckle.
(7) Remove the disc brake caliper from the vehicle
by l i f t i n g i t straight up and off the steering knuckle
and rotor.
INSTALL
I f the vehicle requires new front brake shoe assem-
blies, they can be installed i n the caliper assembly
before or after the caliper is installed on the vehicle.

Bolts
Refer to Front Disc Brake Shoe i n the removal and
installation section i n this group of the service man-
ual for the proper brake shoe installation procedure.
The procedure is the same i f the caliper is on or off
the vehicle. I f brake shoe assemblies are installed i n
caliper before caliper is installed on vehicle, caliper
pistons must be fully seated into caliper bores for
installing caliper assembly over b r a k i n g disc. Caliper
pistons can be pushed back into bores using your fin-
gers and squarely pushing on face of pistons.

I n s t a l l the disc brake caliper by carefully slid-
i n g i t down over the rotor. Be carefully so t h a t the
brake shoe friction material does not get damaged
when i n s t a l l i n g the caliper.

A l i g n the caliper mounting bosses w i t h the
threaded holes i n the steering knuckle. Install the 2
mounting bolts for the caliper into steering knuckle
(Fig. 66). Tighten the caliper to steering knuckle
attaching bolts to a torque of 115 N - m (85 ft. lbs.).

I n s t a l l the brake flex hose back on the caliper
assembly using the following procedure.
• I n s t a l l the flex hose, banjo bolt and N E W copper
seal washers onto the caliper assembly first (Fig. 65).
Only hand tighten the flex hose to caliper assembly
banjo bolt do not torque.
• A l i g n the flex hose mounting bracket w i t h the
steering knuckle hole. Install the hub/bearing to
steering knuckle attaching bolt (Fig. 64). Tighten the
hub/bearing to steering knuckle attaching bolt to a
torque of 61 N - m (45 ft. lbs.). Then tighten the flex
hose to caliper banjo bolt to a torque of 31 N - m (23 ft.
lbs.).
