Error/Warning Messages

There are two kinds of messages: error messages and
warning messages. This section lists these messages
together with their possible causes and remedies. Note the
messages and act accordingly.

Error Messages

If a problem occurs, the ALARM lamp lights in orange and
an error message stating the problem appears on the
monitor and in the printer window display.

In the error message introduced in the following tables,
"nn" indicates the number or symbol displayed in the
actual message.
Possible causes and remedies
There is no ink ribbon loaded.
tLoad the ink ribbon. (See page 15.)
• Paper has been exhausted.
tLoad the paper. (See page 17.) Also, replace the ink
ribbon.
• There is no paper tray loaded.
tInstall the paper tray. (See page 17.)
There are neither ink ribbon nor paper are loaded.
tLoad the ink ribbon and paper. (See pages 15 and 17.)
The maximum number of printouts has accumulated on the
paper tray.
tRemove the printouts. Printing starts again.
• Paper has jammed inside the printer.
tRemove any jammed paper from the printer. (See
page 74.)
In some cases, this message may remain even after the
jammed paper is removed. To clear the message, try
removing the paper feed tray and reinserting it with paper
loaded inside.
• The base plate of the printer is detached.
tAttach the base plate securely. (See page 75)
The paper jams around the paper tray.
tRemove the paper tray and pull out any jammed paper. (See
page 74.)
In some cases, this message may remain even after the
jammed paper is removed. To clear the message, try
removing the paper feed tray and reinserting it with paper
loaded inside.
The ink ribbon has been exhausted.
tReplace the old one with a new ink ribbon. (See page 15.)
(The ink ribbon cannot be reused.) In this case, if the white
paper is ejected. Discard this paper.
The ribbon door panel is open.
tClose the ribbon door panel.
An ink ribbon that can not be used with this printer has been
loaded.
tLoad the appropriate ink ribbon. (See page 66.)
• The ink ribbon has torn.
tRepair the torn ink ribbon. (See page 17.)
• When this message appears even though the ink ribbon is not
torn, contact your Sony service facility or your Sony dealer to
clear the error status.
