Switch serial connection

Note: An optional cable kit with adapters is available to convert the mini-USB port
for RJ-45, DB-9, or standard USB cable connection. For more information about IBM
Flex System options, see
http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/.
To access the switch through a terminal emulator program over a serial connection,
complete the following steps:
1. Configure the workstation serial connection.
2. Connect a null-modem, F/F, USB type B-to-DB9 serial cable from the switch to
3. Open a command-line window on the local workstation.
4. Type admin start and press Enter to obtain administrator privileges.
Chapter 4. Configuring the switch through an SSH interface
For Windows:
a. Click StartAll ProgramsCommunications Hyperterminal.
b. Choose a COM port connection, and then click OK.
c. Type a name for the switch connection, and then choose an icon in the
Connection Description window. Click OK.
d. Type the following COM port values:
• Bits per second: 9600
• Data Bits: 8
• Parity: None
• Stop Bits: 1
• Flow Control: None
For Linux:
a. Set up minicom to use the serial port. Create or modify the
/etc/minirc.dfl file with the following content.
pr portdev/ttyS0
pu minit
pu mreset
pu mhangup
b. Verify that all users have permission to run minicom. Review the
/etc/minicom.users file and confirm that the line ALL exists, or that there
are specific user entries.
