Ethernet port LEDs

There are two LEDs built into the Ethernet port that indicate the transmission
activity over the Ethernet connection and link status.
Table 6 contains a description of Ethernet port LEDs.

LED description
Activity LED
The Activity LED is lit when data is transmitted or received over
the Ethernet connection.
Link Status LED
The Link Status LED is lit when an Ethernet connection is estab-
lished.
LED activity/diagnostic flash pattern
OK
This LED is lit at startup and remains lit while the switch is pow-
ered on.
Location
This LED is lit when enabled by the Chassis Management Mod-
ule web interface or command line interface.
! (Switch Fault)
This LED operates as follows:
• The LED is off during initialization or when the switch is in
• The LED is lit during LED test or to indicate a system fault
External port
This LED operates as follows:
Logged-in (LOG)
• The LED is off when the corresponding external port is not
• The LED is lit when the corresponding external port is logged
• The LED pattern indicates the following conditions:
normal operation.
during a POST failure, thermal fault, or other critical switch
fault.
logged in.
in or during the LED test.
— Logged in: The LED is lit.
— Logging in: The LED flashes at 1-second intervals.
— Beacon location: The LED flashes at 1-second intervals.
— Error: The LED flashes two times per second.
— The corresponding external port is disabled: The LED
flashes at 1-second intervals.
