Installing the Optional Internal Hard Drive

1 Place the hard drives in position on the hard drive assembly.
2 Affix the eight screws securing the hard drives to the hard-drive assembly.
See Figure 3-5.
3 Replace the cooling shroud. See "Installing the Cooling Shroud" on
page 61.
4 Close the system. See "Closing the System" on page 59.
5 Reconnect the system and peripherals to their electrical outlets and turn
on the system.

Opening and Closing the System

WARNING:
To avoid injury, do not attempt to lift the system by yourself.
CAUTION:
You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in
your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service
and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not
covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came
with the product.

Opening the System

1 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect
the system from its electrical outlet.
2 Remove the securing screw on the top of the system. See Figure 3-6.
3 Press down the locking button and with your palms on the traction pad,
slide and lift the cover away from the system.

Installing System Components
Whenever you need to lift the system, get others to assist you.
Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician.
