IP 700 Series Phone Administrator Guide

Defining Line Registrations

The IP 706 phone supports up to 6 lines and the IP 712 phone supports up to 12 lines each served from a
unique proxy/registrar server. This allows a different line for every line key on the phone. The line is called
a multiple call appearance (MCA) type if it will be assigned to one or more line keys on the same phone. It
is called a shared call appearance (SCA) type if the line is shared across multiple phones.
provides a few guidelines to follow when assigning line types to a phone.
An MCA should never be an SCA.
An MCA should be assigned to at least 2 line keys for
complete call handling flexibility.
The parameters Reg.x.Shared and Reg.x.Multiple
should both be set to true to allow multiple appearances
on the phone to be used for SCA. All calls on shared
lines will arrive on appearance 1 and originate on
appearance 1 when the line is idle. Appearance 2 is
used only for transfer and conference originations.
Consider disabling call logging for SCA-type lines.
Many of the calls logged on this type of line may not be
useful and could quickly fill the history buffer.
If the number of pop-up windows becomes distracting
on SCA-type lines, disable CallerID pop-ups.
The line registrations are defined in the MAC address-based configuration file for each phone. Additional
information about the parameters shown in the following example is provided in
This example shows how to configure an MCA line of a PBX:
#Define Line 1. Used to authenticate with the registrar.
Reg.0.AuthUserID 2000
#Enable popup window used for incoming calls.
Reg.0.AuthPassword hello
#Sets the DID number.
Reg.0.Did 2000
#Define domain used to form Invite URIs and Registration request URIs.
Reg.0.Domain adtran.com
#Label that will appear next to the buttons that use this line.
Reg.0.Label x2000
