Assembly and Installation

Connecting the Handset and Headset

1. Using the provided 9-foot coiled handset cord, insert one end into the jack in the bottom of the
handset. Insert the other end into the jack on the back of the phone console labeled with the
handset icon as shown in
2. Optional. Connect your headset to the jack in the back of the phone console labeled with the
headset icon as shown in
the IP 706 or IP 712 phone. For a list of compatible headsets for the IP phones, refer to the
ADTRAN website at www.adtran.com/phones. Once the headset is connected, the headset feature
is ready to use.

Headset Interface Pinout

The pinout for the optional headset is available in
Headset Compatibility
(ADTRAN's Knowledge Base article 3059) for a list of wireless headsets that have
been approved for use with ADTRAN IP 700 Series phones.

Headset Interface Off-Hook Detection

Off-hook detection is achieved by providing battery across the TX+ and TX- pair and monitoring for loop
current. You can simulate off-hook by connecting a 1.5 k resistor across these pins.
