MULTIPLE WATER HEATER CONDENSATE DRAIN LINE AND CONDENSATE TRAP INSTALLATION
Where multiple water heaters are installed and each flue has a Condensate Drain Section fitted, it is
necessary to install a condensate drain line for each Condensate Drain Section.
The drain lines from the Condensate Drain Sections must be run separately to their own individual
Condensate Trap.
The drain line from each Condensate Trap may be:
drained separately to a discharge point, or
manifolded together with a single drain line run to a discharge point.

Condensate Traps with Common Drain Line

1.
Install a Condensate Trap for each Condensate Drain Section in the installation.
Refer to steps Error! Reference source not found. to 4 of the procedure outlined in
Line and Condensate Trap"
If the drain line from each Condensate Trap is to be run separately to a discharge point, then skip to
step 3 below, otherwise refer to step 2 below.
Manifold the drain line from each Condensate Trap into
2.
a common header.
Ensure adequate fall is provided in the header to allow
for complete drainage.
It may be necessary to support the drain line manifold
with suitable hangers from the ceiling.
Run the drain line to a discharge point.
3.
The drain line should be as short as possible, have a
continuous fall all the way from the Condensate Trap to
the discharge outlet and have no tap, valves or other
restrictions in the pipe work.
WARNING:
Failure to fill with water may cause flue gasses to escape through condensate trap.
Check regularly to ensure the condensate trap is filled with water, replenishing when required.
Note: AS3500.4 section 5.12, is used as a guide in preparing the following drainage
recommendations.
As the condensate is mildly acidic, copper tube and fittings must not be used as it will corrode.
Use UUPVC (Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride) or PE (polyethylene) piping.
The outlet of the drain line must be in such a position that flow can be easily seen, but arranged so that
discharge will not cause injury, damage or nuisance.
The drain line must not discharge onto electrical connections, earth stakes, copper pipe, concrete paths
or into a pond.
