BASIC OPERATION

■ Receiving

Make sure charged Ni-MH or brand new alkaline batteries
are installed. (p. 7)
q Hold down [ ] for 1 second to turn power ON.
w Push [p] or [q] to set a desired audio level.
• The function display shows the volume level while setting. See
the section to the right for details.
e Set the receive frequency. (p. 11)
r Set the squelch level. (p. 14)
• While holding down [SQL], rotate [DIAL].
• The first click of [DIAL] indicates the current squelch level.
• "LEVEL 1" is loose squelch and "LEVEL 9" is tight squelch.
• "AUTO" indicates automatic level adjustment using a noise
pulse count system.
• Hold down [SQL] to open the squelch manually.
t When a signal is received:
• The squelch opens and audio is heard.
• The S-meter shows the relative signal strength.
r Push for setting

The audio level can be adjusted through 40 levels.
➥ Push [p] or [q] to adjust the audio level.
• A beep tone sounds while adjusting. The tone sound lets you
