Turnup and Test ECU

Each ADTRAN FNC System is equipped with a heat exchanger climate control system managed by an
Environmental Control Unit. The ECU is an intelligent system used to sense, control, and report the inter-
nal climate of the cabinet. The ECU monitors thermistor input, heat exchanger fans, and ECU alarm
outputs for high temperature, intrusion, and system failures. The Turnup procedure for the ECU is found in
Marconi document 640-205-001, Section 7, Environmental Control.

Shelf Test and Turnup

After the Valere power supply rectifier and ECU have been successfully turned-up and tested, the next step
in the process is to turnup and test the respective shelves.

ADTRAN Total Access 3000

Operation of the Total Access 3000 shelf centers on the installation of the SCU common module, and the
OC-3 and STS-1 multiplexer modules. Additional Gateway SCU information is found in ADTRAN Instal-
lation and Maintenance Practice (P/N 61181018L1-5). Turnup procedures for the STS-1 and OC-3 are
found in the Total Access 3000/3010 System Manual (P/N 61181001L1-1), NTP-505 (STS-1) and
NTP-506 (OC-3).

Total Access 3000 Client/Host SCU

In the FNC, one Total Access 3000 unit (shelf A) is designated the Host and the remaining units (shelves B
and C) the Clients. All shelves use the enhanced Gateway SCU (P/N 1181018L1).
Refer to the Total Access 3000/3010 System Manual for information concerning Telnet, TL1, SNMP, and
Host/Client configuration.

Total Access STS-1

The Turnup procedures for the STS-1 MUX (Total Access 3000/3010 System Manual Section NTP-505)
has three prerequisites listed. These prerequisites have been performed in the systems integration process
of the cabinets. These procedures include:
• Installation and wiring of Total Access 3000 shelf and SCU: NTP-501
• BNC module installation: DLP-708
• Coaxial cable installation: PREP-401, DLP-709
The Total Access 3000 has the capability to have redundant multiplexers for protection. If that capability is
to be used, then two Total Access STS-1 MUX modules should be installed. If this is the case, Slot A will
be the active slot and Slot B the protect slot.

Cross Connect Alarms

The Total Access 3000 housekeeping alarms terminate at the alarm cross connect block. In order to carry
the alarms back to the network, the appropriate alarm leads are cross connected to the housekeeping alarms
for the Total Access 3000 shelves.
