    OVERVIEW This document supports the ADTRAN Total Access Fiber Node Cabinet (P/N 4192MS3KQL1). The Fiber Node Cabinet (FNC) is an individual system designed to provide cost-effective and remotely managed HDSL, HDSL2, HDSL4, and T1 transport from a fiber-fed backbone for the delivery of high capacity services.

    Fiber Node Cabinet System Manual Equipment Chamber The equipment chamber has two vertical equipment racks installed in a back-to-back configuration. The back-to-back equipment chamber houses the electronics and power systems and is divided into two bays.     Fiber Node Cabinet System Manual Bay 2 The back section of the equipment chamber (Figure 2) houses the Valere power supply/rectifier system, the Total Access 3000 shelf, Total Access 23-inch Heat Baffle and Fiber Tray with 23-inch Fan Assembly, a PECO II fuse and alarm panel, and an alarm wire-wrap panel.

    Fiber Node Cabinet System Manual AC Power/Splice Chamber An additional door on the right side of the cabinet provides access to the AC power distribution and splice module chamber (end chamber). This chamber houses the AC load center, surge module protect blocks, and network side and field side splice modules.

    Network Management Overview Management of the SONET (synchronous optical network) system itself for Operation, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning (OAM&P) is accomplished through the capabilities of the ADTRAN OC-3 and STS-1 multiplexer.     Fiber Node Cabinet System Manual INSTALLATION This section provides a sequential action process to install the FNC and verify it for online operation. Many references are made to the associated documents found on the CD included with this manual or the included hard copies behind identifying tabs in this document.
  • Page 16: Shipping Container

    To avoid injury or equipment damage, follow standard safety and handling practices and procedures when transporting and storing the ADTRAN cabinet to a staging or installation site. Refer to these safety procedures and the appropriate Marconi cabinet installation document. Shipping Container The cabinet should not be transported to the installation site until the concrete pad is cured and ready for cabinet installation, conduit laid, and the site prepared for installation.

    Fiber Node Cabinet System Manual WIRING CONNECTIONS The ADTRAN FNC has its own AC power load center. The load center is supplied with commercial power. All AC equipment from the service drop to the pad is provided locally by the customer. This precludes the requirement for a separate power pedestal.

    Fiber Node Cabinet System Manual Fiber Optic Cable The customer is responsible for routing and terminating external fiber optic cable to the ADC fiber termi - nation shelf. Splicing of the fiber is done within the ADC shelf. Provide a minimum 50-foot coil of excess fiber cable in the cabinet from the external source before making the termination connection.

    Fiber Node Cabinet System Manual POWER TURNUP The FNC is equipped with an AC Load Center. The load center is located within the cabinet’s end chamber. Once power is available to the cabinet from a commercial power source, wire the main breaker following the instructions given in Marconi document 640-205-001, Section 4, AC Power.

    Fiber Node Cabinet System Manual Each ADTRAN FNC will accept a separately protected 240 VAC single phase, 60 Hz circuit. Load sizes (breakers) vary from 15 amps to 100 amps. For detailed installation and wiring instructions of the AC power to the AC load center, refer to Marconi document 640-205-001, Section 5, Cable Splicing, Termina- tion, and Configuration.

    Fiber Node Cabinet System Manual Battery Installation and Test WARNING Electrical and Explosion Hazard. Batteries can be a lethal source of electrical power under certain conditions. Do not touch the connector posts. Do not lift cabinet with batteries installed. WARNING Prior to connecting the batteries to the rectifier, ensure that all AC and DC circuit breakers are in the OFF position.

    Fiber Node Cabinet System Manual Turnup and Test ECU Each ADTRAN FNC System is equipped with a heat exchanger climate control system managed by an Environmental Control Unit. The ECU is an intelligent system used to sense, control, and report the inter- nal climate of the cabinet.

    Total Access 3000 Shelf Wiring The loops for ADTRAN Total Access 3000 shelf wiring appears on the equipment side of the cross connect blocks. Beginning with the host shelf (A), HDSLx circuits are wired to the equipment side protection panel. Loop 1 pairs are wired sequentially to positions 1 through 84.
  • Page 27 The HDSLx module puts –190 VDC on the loops. Once the module is seated, provision the module to customer required service settings. Refer to the appro- priate ADTRAN access module Installation and Maintenance Practice or Job Aid for these settings. NOTE Craft personnel are responsible for installing the 5-pin protector modules when turning up the customer circuits.
