(auto) mode is useful for general photography,
and it allows you to customize a variety of
settings to suit the shooting conditions
and the type of shot you want to capture (_63).

• You can change how the camera selects the area of the frame to focus on by setting AF
area mode (_63).
The default setting is Face priority.
• When AF area mode in the shooting menu is set to Face priority
(default setting) the
camera focuses on the subject as follows:
If the camera detects a human face, the camera automatically
focuses on it (see "Face
Detection"
([_]68) for more information).
if no faces are detected, the camera automatically
selects one or more of the nine focus
areas containing
the subject closest to the camera. When the subject is in focus, the
focus area (active focus area) lights in green (maximum of nine areas).
