Scene auto selector
The camera simplifies shooting
by automatically
selecting the optimum
scene mode as
shown below when the shot is framed.

• When the camera automatically
selects a scene mode, the shooting mode icon displayed
in the shooting screen changes to that for the scene mode currently enabled.
• The area of the frame that the camera focuses on (AF area) depends on the composition
of the image. When the camera detects a human face, it focuses on that face. See _'Face
Detection"

• Depending
upon shooting conditions, the camera may not select the desired scene
mode. Should this occur, switch to i_1 (auto) mode (_38)
or select the desired scene
mode manually.
• Digital zoom is not available.
Portrait

Use this mode for portraits.
• The camera detects a human face and focuses on it (_68).
• The camera smoothes skin tones by applying the skin
softening function (_70).
• If no faces are detected when the shutter-release button is
pressed halfway, the camera focuses on the subject at the
center of the frame.
• Digital zoom is not available.

Landscape
Use this mode for vivid landscapes and cityscapes.
• The focus area or focus indicator (_30)
always glows green
when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway.
• Use the scene effect adjustment
slider (_42)
to adjust
image saturation.
