Featherboard
Featherboards
are used during
rip cutting to
help keep the workpiece
against
the fence.
The featherboard
is clamped
to the front
table, so that the angled
edge of the feather-
board
is against
the workpiece
on the infeed
end of the blade.
The other edge of the
workpiece
is against
the fence.
Make new featherboards
when existing ones
have been damaged.
!. Use solid (knot free) lumber
24 inches by
5 1/2 inches by 3/4 inch.
2. On the 24 inch sides mark a point 5 1/2 in-
ches down on the left and 9 1/2 inches down
on the right from the edge of the board.
Draw a line between
the points.
3.Crosscut
workpiece
at a 30 ° angle then rip
to make the kerfs.
4. Do not clamp the featherboard
against
the
cut off part of the workpiece.

If the workpiece
you want to rip cut does not
have a straight
edge, attach
an auxiliary
board
to the workpiece.
1. Place irregular
side of workpiece
against
fence.

2. Place straight
edged auxiliary board on top
of workpiece
and against
fence.
3. Tack the auxiliary board
to the workpiece.
The attxiliary board
must not extend
beyoitd
the leading
end of tile workpiece
and should
cover the workpiece
width only enough
to
pass between
the blade and fence.
3. Use a fence that is equal to or higher
than
the combined
height
of the workpiece
and
auxiliary board.
