9. Class 271/272: thread retractor

If at the start of a seam the upper thread-end is supposed to be pulled
through to the underside of the material, it must not be caught between
the sewing foot and the material. The thread retractor ensures that the
upper thread-end hangs loosely from the eye of the needle.
The movement of the thread retractors takes place after the threads
have been severed and before the sewing feet have been raised. The
function can be set at the control.
The thread retractor can be switched on and off with the rocker switch

Regulation and inspection
At the end of the forward retraction movement the lever 4 should be in
contact with the Vulkollan disc 3.
The retraction movement should be completed without hindrance.
Caution: danger of injury
Turn off the main switch.
The thread retractor may only be adjusted with the sewing machine
switched off.
Adjustment
Undo screws 7 and 8.
Adjust magnet 1.
At the end of the forward retraction movement the lever 4 should
be in contact with the Vulkollan disc 3.
Retighten screws 7 and 8.
Undo screws 2.
Adjust the retractor wire 6.
The retraction movement should be completed without hindrance.
Retighten screws 2.
IMPORTANT
If the thread retractor is being used together with the compensating
hinged foot, transmission lever 4 must be replaced by transmission
lever 5 (order no.: Z120 001841).
