Use Smart Zones™

In general, TextBridge Pro does an excellent job of analyzing page
images and separating the text areas from the graphic areas. This
is particularly true when the graphics on a page image are
halftones. Halftones are photographs and other artwork
reproduced through screens. These screens render the image in
dots of various sizes, so the image can be printed.
With line art, however, TextBridge Pro has more difficulty. It
often tries to recognize line art as text, creating errors in the
output document. In addition, any artwork that also has text in it
can cause TextBridge Pro to create recognition and recomposition
errors.
To work with documents that contain line art and other such
artwork, TextBridge Pro provides a capability called Smart
Zones. Working in preview mode, you can use the Image Zone
tool to identify the graphic areas on page images.
TextBridge Pro will then ignore any image zones for recognition
purposes. If you specified one of the Output Layout settings that
instructs TextBridge Pro to output graphics, the copies of the
zoned graphics will be saved in your output file.
In addition, if you specified one of the document recomposition
Output Layout settings, Recompose Text or Recompose All, the
text will be recomposed in its original column format.
If you want accurate document recomposition, make sure to
Note
create image zones for all images (halftones and line art) on the
page. Otherwise, only the zoned images are output, and
recomposition can suffer. Also, for best recomposition results,
make sure the zone rectangle fits tightly around the picture.
Avoid enclosing any additional white space inside the zone.

"Previewing pages before processing" in Chapter 4.
