fax. Go to step 2.

fax, go to step 2.
Press START/COPY and replace the handset.
When your fax machine finishes receiving the document,
it sounds a long tone and then automatically returns to
the standby mode.
. ANS/FAX Switching Mode
In ANS/FAX mode, the unit can share the same tele-
phone line with an answering machine.
To use this mode, you have to instali an answering
machine to the EXT LINE jack on your fax machine.
To select the ANS/FAX mode, press RECEIVE/POLL
repeatedly until the indicator flickers.
When a call is received, the answering machine answers
and plays a recorded outgoing message.
If a fax tone is detected on the line by your fax machine,
the call automatically switches over to the fax machine
and reception begins, overriding the answering ma-
chine's announcement.
lf someone wants to speak with you, your fax machine
ignores the call. The caller can leave a message on the
answering machine.
Notes:
« If you have trouble receiving faxes in the ANS/FAX
mode, change the silence detection time mode. This
feature in the "User Options" will ensure fax reception
when a fax tone is not detected on the line by your fax
machine.
+ When only fax messages are received your answering
10
machine may still indicate a voice message has been
left even though none was actually received.
If the sound level of the incoming call is too low due to
a poor telephone connection, the fax machine and/or
answering machine may not function properly.
e
If the answering machine does not answer the call for
such reasons that recording message is full or the
answering machine is switched off, your fax unit will
automatically receive the fax. If the answering machi-
ne is featured with a user-selectable ring counter, set
the machine to answer an incoming call within 4 rings
or less.
When you use using the manual reception mode on
your unit and an answering machine is installed, you
must make sure you switch off the answering ma-
chine, otherwise the OGM
from the answering
ma-
chine will disrupt your telephone conversation.
When your answering machine answers an incoming
call, a fax tone may be recorded while your fax discri-
minates between a voice and fax. Your answering ma-
chine may indicate a voice message has been left.
Set your answering machine to VOX mode (if applica-
ble). VOX stands for voice operated transmission and
is the name given to the answering machine facility
which causes disconnection when a period of silence
is detected by the answering machine. So, if the
silence is detected, your fax machine begins fax
reception.
Some Message Guideline
The message that you record on your answering ma-
chine should give clear instructions to callers who may
want to send a fax or leave a message. Your message
should say "This is (your company). If you would like to
send a fax, please press your START key. If you want
to leave a message, please speak after beep."
Keep your message as short as possible.
4. General Notes on Receiving
The thermal paper used in your fax machine is sensitive
to heat and sunlight, and fades after an extended period
of time. If you need to keep the faxed document for a
long time. We suggest you make a photocopy of it.
If a communication error occurs, the fax machine sounds
a jong warning tone and the ERROR/NO PAPER indica-
tor lights.
When you are out of paper, the ERROR/NO PAPER
indi-
cator lights to let you know. Replace the recording p-per.
. Receiving Using an Extension Telephone
If an extension telephone is connected to the EXTLINE
jack on your machine, you can transfer a fax transmis-
sion to your fax unit using the extension telephone.
