12. Operating Simcenter SCADAS RS

Preparing for first use

The Uninterruptable Power Supply Unit is equipped with a built-in Li-Ion battery pack that serves as
power buffer. Charge it before use with a Siemens approved AC/DC adapter or with the on-board power
source of the vehicle or system under test.

Setup and configuring

For (initial) setup and configuring, units can be powered individually by a Siemens approved AC/DC
power adapter. Units in a daisy chain setup are powered by a UPS Unit. The UPS Unit gets its power from
a DC power source in the vehicle or the system under test.

Grounding stacked units

Ground stacks of units properly before powering up.
1.
Main stack: Bring external earth ground, or vehicle chassis ground in mobile setups, to the units'
stack chassis.
• Use an accessible metallic point, like one of the backside screw holes.

Attention!
The UPS Unit will charge the power buffer when the UPS Unit is connected to a DC
power source and there is enough power available, which depends on the current
load of the system.
When the power of the power buffer is getting close to its critical value, the UPS
Unit will shut down the system after it has enabled the Recorder Unit to save the
data first.
Power buffer charging stops above a load of 82 W and restarts when the load drops
below 75 W.
