CUSTOMIZING DVD SETUP
Various default settings related to the disc player and the TV
monitor can be changed as needed or preferred.
The language in which this menu is displayed can be selected
from six available languages (see "Menu Languages", page 43).
The illustrations show the display in English, the default language.
OVERVIEW OF THE SETUP MENU
There are 7 major menu items that can be adjusted.
Their function
are as follows:
1 On-screen Menu (page 43)

Sets the on-screen guide display on or off.

Selects a background color for the TV screen.

Selects the language for this setup menu and the on-screen
guide messages.
2 Disc Languages (page 44)
Selects the preferred audio soundtrack language, subtitle
language and menu screen language for DVD playback.
3 Audio Output Setting (page 45)
Adjusts the type of signal output from the DIGITAL AUDIO
OUT (OPTICAL) jack and the SPEAKERS jacks.
4 TV Aspect (page 46)
Sets the aspect ratio of the video signal sent to your connected
TV set.
5 Ratings (page 47)
Sets the rating limit of DVDs allowed to playback on this unit
when playing discs with restriction level encoding.
With discs that include scenes with excessive violence, for
example, this setting can be used either to automatically cut
such scenes or to disable playback altogether, depending on
the disc.
6 PBC (page 48)
Sets your preferred setting to turn the PBC (PlayBack Control)
function for video CDs on or off.
7 Disc Resume (page 48)
Sets whether the disc resume memory is retained after power
off, opening of the disc tray, switching of the current disc or
switching of the function.
The "Audio Output Setting" and the "TV Aspect" setting need
to be set specifically to match your configuration of connected
equipment.
* Changing the default "Audio Output Setting" maybe needed if
You are connecting an external decoder or amplifier.
* The default "TV Aspect" setting has to be changed jf your TV
is a wide screen set.
Any other setting can be changed or kept as is, according to
your preferences.

Basic operation of the SETUP MENU is described here.
The setup menu can be operated only from the remote control.
1 Press SETUP while DVD/CD is selected and the
player is stopped.
The "SETUP MENU" screen is displayed.

2 Use A W to move
the cursor (the yellow-
highlighted area) to the setting to be changed.
3 Press ENTER.
The menu screen for the item you selected will be displayed.
4 Use AW to move the cursor to the desired setting.
5 Press ENTER to enter your selection.
The selected setting will be saved, and the display returns to
the main setup screen of step 1.
For some settings, however, the screen will display a more
detailed menu.
Follow the directions shown on the screen.
6 Press SETUP to exit the setup menu.
To return to the previous screen
Press 0 @RETURN.
To exit the setup menu
Press SETUP.
To confirm your setting
1 Follow steps 1 to 4 above to display the setting you want to
confirm.
2 Press SETUP to exit the setup menu without making changes.
* Ifyou pressed 0° #RETURN or SETUP before pressing ENTER
to enter your selection, you return to the previous screen or
exit the setup menu, respectively, without saving your selection.
Any selection you entered by pressing ENTER will be saved.
If you are uncertain of your present setup, follow "To confirm
your setting", above.
* While the setup screen is displayed, you will not be able to
load or unload a disc or perform other operations. Press SETUP
again to exit the setup screen first.
