Driving your vehicle
Starting the engine
WARNING
僅 Always wear appropriate shoes when
operating your vehicle. Unsuitable
shoes (high heels, ski boots, etc.) may
interfere with your ability to use the
brake and accelerator pedal.
僅 Do not start the vehicle with the accel-
erator pedal depressed. The vehicle
can move and lead to an accident.
僅 Wait until the engine rpm is normal.
The vehicle may suddenly move if the
brake pedal is released when the rpm
is high.
Starting the petrol engine
Operation
1. Make sure the parking brake is
applied.
2. Make sure the gear is in P (Park).
3. Fully depress the brake pedal.
4. Turn the key to START position or
press the ENGINE START/STOP but-
ton.
Starting the diesel engine
Operation
1. Make sure the parking brake is
applied.
2. Make sure the gear is in P (Park).
3. Fully depress the brake pedal.
4. Turn the key to ON position or press
the ENGINE START/STOP button. The

engine is started.

NOTICE
僅 If the engine does not start within 10
seconds after the preheating is com-
pleted, turn the ignition key once
more to the LOCK position for 10 sec-
onds, and then to the ON position, in
order to preheat again.
僅 If the engine start/stop button is
pressed once more whilst the engine
is pre-heating, the engine may start.
Starting and stopping the turbo-
charged/intercooled engine (if
equipped)
Operation
1. Idle the engine for a few seconds after
turning the vehicle in START position
to ensure the turbocharger is lubri-
cated.
2. Idle the engine for approximately a
minute before turning the vehicle in
OFF position to allow the turbo-
charger to cool down.
WARNING
Wait until the engine rpm is normal. The
vehicle may suddenly move if the brake
pedal is released when the rpm is high.
CAUTION
僅 You can also start the engine when
the gear is in the N (neutral) position,
but for safety, be sure to start the
engine only when the gear is in the P
(Park) position.
僅 Do not turn the engine off immedi-
ately after it has been subjected to a
heavy load. Doing so may cause
severe damage to the engine or tur-
bocharger unit.
