Opening and editing an existing configuration

There are various scenarios where it makes sense to open existing (finalized) configurations. For
example, in order to:
• Update an existing configuration
If you want to update an existing configuration, you can create a new version of it.
• Use an existing configuration as template
If you wish to use an existing configuration as template for another configuration, you can
create a copy and edit it as required.
• Import configuration component(s) from an existing configuration
This is useful, for example, in complex applications when you wish to add the same
configuration component to multiple configuration files. In this case, you can import the
components from another configuration file into the current configuration file.
These scenarios for opening and editing an existing configuration are described below.
Update an existing configuration
Follow these steps to open an existing configuration and adapt it:
1. Open the Config editor by double-clicking the "config_editor.exe" file.
2. In the dialog window, click the "Open Configuration" button and select the configuration file
("*.balcfg") of which you want to create a new version.
Alternatively, you can open an existing configuration via the "File > Open..." menu.
3. Click the "Create a New Version" button in the "Your Options > Update it" area.

6. In the "Configuration Components" area, select the "Administrative Information" entry and
enter a description of which changes were made compared to the previous version in the
"Changes in This Version" input field.
7. Make sure that your configuration is complete and valid.
Open points are shown in the "Your Workflow > 1. Complete configuration" area.
8. Save the configuration using the "File > Save Draft" menu.
The configuration with the imported components is saved as draft. It is advisable to retain the
suffix "-DRAFT" as part of the file name. This suffix will help you to maintain an overview of
your versions later. When the project is finalized later, the suffix is automatically deleted or
replaced.
