Refer to Figure 6-8 and Figure 6-9 for details of output arm installation.
Removal
1. Remove the cotter pin and castellated nut on the servo shaft.
2. Remove the washers, output arm, and output hub from the servo shaft.
Re-installation
NOTE
Belleville washers must be compressed with the castellated nut to set the friction. Friction
is necessary to prevent mechanical fuse failures due to cycling. Refer to Figure 4.7 for
friction reset procedures.
1. Align the slot in the output hub with the cross pin on the servo output shaft and slide the hub on
until engaged.
2. Slide the arm on the servo shaft with thrust washer on each side of the arm followed by the key
washer nested in the shaft keyways.
CAUTION
Ensure the arm is oriented as required for a particular control axis; roll servo and yaw
servo arms point up, pitch servo arm points down. Refer to Figure 6-5, Figure 6-6, or
Figure 6-7.
3. Ensure the spring washers are stacked as illustrated in Figure 6-8 and/or Figure 6-9 and slide them
on the servo shaft.
4. Hand tighten the castellated nut.
5. Lock the servo output shaft with the Shaft Locking Device (Garmin P/N 117-01307-00).
6. Set the arm friction in accordance with Figure 4.7.
RESET PROCEDURE
NOTE
Installation of the entire servo output arm as described above must be accomplished even
when only the spring washers are replaced, including arm friction reset per Figure 4.7.
NOTE
The servo needs to be re-calibrated for the range of motion in accordance with Section 7.2
after the servo output arm is installed and control rod connected.
After calibration, the GFC 83 servo must be checked following procedures detailed in Section 1.
