    Description OPTI-APPS operates from a Microsoft Windows environment to provide management access to one or more OPTI-6100 Network Element (NE). OPTI-APPS is a Java-based application, and almost completely self-contained, to run on virtually any PC. OPTI-APPS provides full, real-time OAM&P access to remote OPTI-6100 NEs through OPTI-6100 Gateway NEs (GNEs) or a wide range of third-party GNEs supporting TL1 OSI.

    OPTI-6100 OPTI-APPS User Guide Installation This section describes how to install the OPTI-APPS application, plus software necessary for its operation. Java Runtime Environment Being Java-based, OPTI-APPS requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.8.0 or later when using Windows 10 and JRE 1.5.0 when using Windows 7. This section details how to verify if an appropriate JRE version is already installed.

    Installation Install and Configure OPTI-APPS OPTI-APPS is virtually self-contained, and can be installed with a simple drag-and-drop, plus a few quick set-up steps. If a previous OPTI-APPS release exists, complete the following steps: NOTE Make sure to use a Java version that is 64-bit when using Windows 10. To install and run OPTI-APPS, complete the following steps: Copy the file OPTI-APPS_#.#.jar onto the computer, at any convenient location.

    Overview Overview This section is a description of the OPTI-APPS interface, its controls, and its basic operation. Workflow information can be found in later sections. The OPTI-APPS interface is a three-pane, user-sizeable window environment (see Figure The OPTI-APPS window can be resized like any standard Windows application, and offers other typical Windows functionality.

    Overview Sorting Network Elements Gateway and Remote NEs in the element tree can be sorted. Sort options are accessed through the context menu. Sorting Remote NEs The context menu offers the option to sort Remote NEs alphabetically. To sort Remote NEs: Right-click on the appropriate Gateway NE to display the context menu.

    OPTI-6100 OPTI-APPS User Guide Configuration Pane The upper right area of the OPTI-APPS window is the Configuration Pane (Config Pane). This is where GNEs and NEs are configured. Once an element is selected in the Nav Pane, the Config Pane displays options to enter, review, or edit information about that element.

    If blank, the connection is identified by the IP address or COM port. GNE Type This drop-down menu indicates the manufacturer of the GNE equipment. In addition to ADTRAN (the default), this menu lists several approved GNEs, plus “Other” for manually configuring a GNE.

    In the User ID field, enter a valid User ID (Account Name) for that system. NOTICE If the OPTI-6100 NE is provisioned for case-sensitive Login information, the User ID must match the expected value precisely. Click OK to save this information.

    23 for details. Menu Auto Login After the initial login to an OPTI-6100 NE, OPTI-APPS stores the password in encrypted memory. Subsequent OPTI-APPS sessions automatically log in to the GNE and OPTI-6100 NEs, and no password check is required to initiate menu sessions.

    Add, Configure, Connect, and Delete Network Elements Remove All Network Elements To delete all GNEs and all NEs, complete the following steps: From the Config menu, select Remove All Network Elements.     First, build the GNE according to “Add, Configure, and Connect: Gateway Network Element” on page 15. Next, build the same OPTI-6100 as an NE subtended from that GNE, using the instructions in “Add, Configure, and Connect: Remote Network Element” on page 18.

    OPTI-6100 Access and Maintenance Remote Menu Access This process may only need to be performed for the first connection to any OPTI-6100 NE. If Menu Auto Login is enabled, OPTI-APPS encrypts and saves the password used for the initial login, allowing one-click logins afterward.

    OPTI-6100 OPTI-APPS User Guide FTOT Directory The FTOT Directory is a user-specified directory for storing OPTI-6100 files on the PC, for file transfer by OPTI-APPS. The default FTOT directory is the OPTI-APPS application folder, C:\Documents and Settings\[PC username]\OPTI-APPS\. To configure a different FTOT directory, select File > FTOT Dir. A dialog appears for speci- fying the new path and directory.

    OPTI-6100 Access and Maintenance Enable/Disable FTOT FTOT can be enabled or disabled on a global basis, or per individual NE. To globally enable/disable FTOT for all NEs, select Config > Global FTOT Disable from the OPTI-APPS menu bar (Figure 22). While this is checked, the FTOT checkbox in the Config Pane reads Global Disable for every NE.

    • OPTI-APPS must have a valid connection to each OPTI-6100 to be upgraded. • FTOT must be enabled globally in OPTI-APPS. • FTOT must be enabled locally for each OPTI-6100 to be upgraded, with a Ready status. • Auto Upgrade Mode must be set to Auto on each OPTI-6100 to be upgraded.

    OPTI-6100 Access and Maintenance Logs OPTI-APPS can monitor and maintain logs of certain communications and operations: • “TL1 Log” on page 29 • “FTOT Log” on page 30 TL1 Log OPTI-APPS monitors TL1 messages to and from the configured elements. TL1 can be displayed in a TL1 Log window at the GNE level (all subtended remote NEs are included) or at a global level (every GNE and NE is included).
