To mount the handlebar:
► Shut off the engine, @ 12.1.

► Flip up the grip of the clamp screw (1) and turn the clamp
screw counterclockwise until the handlebar (2) is only
slightly clamped.
► Insert the spring (5) from the underside into the lower
clamp molding (4).
► Place the clamp moldings (3 and 4) on the shaft and insert
the clamp screw (1).
► Swing up the handlebar (3) and adjust it so that the
distance (A) is about 7 in. (17 cm).
► Tighten the clamp screw (1). Ensure that the handle is
tight and will not move during operation.
► Remove the screw (6).
► Position the control handle (8) on the handlebar (2) with
the throttle trigger facing the gearbox. Do not twist the
control handle.
► Line up the hole in the control handle with the hole in the
handlebar.
► Insert the nut (7).
► Insert and tighten the screw (6).

Mounting a Deflector

WARNING
To reduce the risk of injury from thrown objects or contact
with the cutting attachment, never operate the trimmer /

brushcutter without a properly mounted deflector. Keep
bystanders at least 50 ft. (15 m) away. When using a
deflector designed for use with a metal cutting blade, you

must change the deflector before mounting a mowing head.
WARNING
The cutting attachment and deflector must be an approved
combination. Use only an approved combination of cutting
attachment and deflector to maximize cutting performance
and reduce the risk of serious personal injury from thrown
objects or contact with the cutting attachment, @ 23.1.
All deflectors are mounted to the gearbox in the same way.
To mount a deflector:
► Shut off the engine, @ 12.1.

► Push the deflector (1) into the guides on the gearbox until
it stops. The deflector must be tight against the gearbox.
► Insert and tighten the screws (2) with a torque of
88.5 lbf. in. (10 Nm). Ensure that the deflector is tight and
will not move during operation.
