The SCALANCE XCM-100 Media Converter has an RJ45 socket with MDI-X assignment (Medium
Dependent Interface autocrossover) as a twisted pair port.
Note
Permissible cable lengths
A total cable length of maximum 100 m between two devices is allowed with the IE FC Cables
and IE FC RJ45 Plugs 180, depending on the cable type.
Autonegotiation
The twisted pair port of the SCALANCE XCM-100 operates exclusively in autonegotiation
transmission mode, which must also be set for the twisted pair port of the partner device. A
configuration of the partner device deviating from this increases the number of lost message
frames and is therefore not permitted.
With the autonegotiation mechanism, repeaters and end devices can automatically determine
the transmission speed and the transmission mode of the partner port. This makes it possible to
configure different devices automatically.
