8. Now take the negative (-)
(black) lead. First connect it to
the good battery's negative (-)
terminal. Use the remote neg-
ative (-) terminal if the vehicle
has one. Don't let the other
end touch metal yet.
Do not connect the negative
(-) lead to the negative (-)
terminal on the flat battery
because this can cause sparks.
9. Attach the other end of the
negative lead to a heavy metal
part on the engine of the vehi-
cle with the flat battery, or to
a remote negative (-) terminal
if the vehicle has one.
Attach the lead at least 45 cm
(18 inches) away from the flat
battery, but not near engine
parts that move.
Use the remote negative (-)
terminal if your vehicle has
one.

10. Start the vehicle with the
good battery. Run the engine
for a while.
11. Then try to start the other
vehicle.
If the engine does not start af-
ter a few tries, the vehicle may
need service.
12. Remove the leads in reverse
order to prevent electrical
shorting.
