7.4 Host-based lpd Printing

The CD ROM provided with the EcoLAN 2000E includes install scripts for various
UNIX systems. This section describes how to install TCP/IP printing to the EcoLAN
2000E on any of the following operating systems:
• DEC ULTRIX 4.3 RISC
• System V Rel. 4
• Solaris (Ver. 1.x, 2.x)
• SCO UNIX
• OSF1/ALPHA
• IBM AIX
• HP/UX
Once the EcoLAN 2000E has its IP information loaded, the following steps are
necessary for Host-Side TCP/IP printing:
1. Load the print server software on your workstation. It is presented as a tar file on
the CD ROM.
2. Run the appropriate installation script, if available.
3. Complete the configuration for your operating system.

7.4.1 Loading the Software

The following procedures are only necessary when using the supplied host-based lpd
capability. Loading the software is not necessary if printer-based lpd is used.
Important:
1. Log in as superuser to the system that spools directly to the print server.
2. Insert the print server's TCP/IP diskette in the host drive.
The host-based lpd requires a TCP/IP port number of 10001. The default
port number for the EcoLAN 2000E is 9100. Please use Telnet, the MAP
utility, or a Web Browser to change the port number. In the configuration
utilities the port number is set to one less than the desired port number. For
example, for port 10001, enter 10000. The EcoLAN 2000E Network Status
Page displays the actual port number in use.
