5.5 Windows NT 3.51
5.1 Windows Network Printing Capabilities
5.5.1 Windows NT 3.51 NetWare Printing
Prior to printing from the Windows clients via NetWare, the 2000E must be
configured for NetWare printing. Please refer to Chapter 4 for instructions on NetWare
printing configuration of the 2000E.
Once NetWare printing is configured, Windows NT 3.51 clients can access the 2000E
NetWare print queue in a number of ways, such as by issuing a CAPTURE command
(often in the NetWare user login script) or through Control Panel, Printers, highlight
the appropriate printer, select Connect to Printer from the Printer menu, and choose
the NetWare queue from the Shared Printers list.
5.5.2 Windows NT 3.51 LPR Printing
LPR printing requires that the workstation have TCP/IP capability and the
corresponding LPR spooler. If the printer is not shared, then an LPR queue must be
created on each workstation from which printing is initiated.
Windows NT 3.51 includes TCP/IP and LPR capabilities. The TCP/IP Protocol,
Simple TCP/IP Services, and Microsoft TCP/IP Printing must be installed prior to
establishing LPR printing.
Installing Windows NT 3.51 TCP/IP
The Windows NT system performing the 2000E LPR configuration must have the
TCP/IP protocol installed. The following steps describe how to check for and, if
necessary, add the required TCP/IP components.
1. In the Program Manager group Main, double click on Control Panel.
2. Double click on Network and check the list of Installed Network Software for the
following three components:
Microsoft TCP/IP Printing, Simple TCP/IP Services, & TCP/IP Protocol
3. If any of these components are missing, click on Add Software, select TCP/IP
Protocol and related components and click on Continue.
4. Select TCP/IP Network Printing Support and Simple TCP/IP Services and
click Continue.
