D. Set the EQ
Now, letÕs EQ (equalize) the guitar. Equalization is the process of boosting or cutting certain
frequencies to change the color and character of the sound.
1) Press the CH EDIT button 1 to select channel 1 as the Input whose signal we will be affecting.
2) Hold SHIFT and press EQ LOW (CH EDIT button 3) to select the range of EQ that weÕre going to alter.
Hold
3) Adjust the low frequency band as desired. The value that is blinking is the one that is currently active.
Use the CURSOR buttons to switch between them. You can boost or cut the frequency by 12db
(decibels). This parameter is located to the left of the slash. You can also select the frequency that you
will be boosting or cutting. This parameter, measured in Hz (Hertz), is to right of the slash. Again, use
the CURSOR buttons to move from one to the other.
4) By pressing the PARAMETER right button, you can access the EQ HIGH parameters. The same
concept applies as in step 3, only now weÕre dealing with higher frequencies.
5) Adjust the high frequency band as desired. You will notice that the sound character changes as you
boost or cut various frequencies. DonÕt be afraid to experiment here.
E. Bypass the EQ
When making EQ adjustments, itÕs often helpful to compare the ÒEQedÓ version of the sound to the
original. That way, you can hear the contrast between them. Just as you used the right PARAMETER
button to go from EQ LOW to EQ HIGH, you can do the opposite to access the EQ Switch parameter.
1) From the EQ HIGH page, press the PARAMETER left button twice. The display should read ÒEQ
Switch=On.Ó
2) To turn the EQ off, simply turn the TIME/VALUE dial to the left (counter-clockwise). Now, when you
play the guitar or other Input signal, there will be no EQ. Toggling the EQ on and off will give you a
good idea as to what the EQ is doing to the sound.
3) Make sure the EQ Switch is on before you make any other adjustments.
F. Record
To begin recording, we will return to the play screen.
1) Press the DISPLAY button. The display will return to the play screen that was last selected (Pre Level,
Post Level, Play List, or Fader/Pan). Use the display screens to check your levels and make sure the
INPUT SENS 1 light is not peaking when you play. Also, make sure the sound is not distorting in your
speakers or headphones.
2) Press REC followed by PLAY to record your guitar part with EQ.
