The SHIFT button is used to activate the second or ÒdualÓ function of a given button on the VS-880. Many
buttons have dual functions. A buttonÕs second function is indicated by the name of that function,
surrounded by a white border. One such button is the PLAY/DISPLAY button.
The PLAY/DISPLAY button allows you to switch between or ÒtoggleÓ through the 4 different realtime
displays: Pre-Level, Post Level, Play List and Fader/Pan. You will notice that the word ÒDISPLAYÓ has a
white border around it. (Notice that the SHIFT button does as well). This means that the PLAY/DISPLAY
button has two functions. If you simply press the PLAY/DISPLAY button, you will return the VS-880 to ÒPlay
ModeÓ from any other screen or edit mode you may be in at the time. For example, if youÕre editing the
effects processor and press the PLAY/DISPLAY button, you will instantly return to the PLAY/DISPLAY
screen. There are four different PLAY/DISPLAY screens to choose from, each of which shows a different
view of the audio data on the VS-880.
By holding SHIFT and pressing PLAY/DISPLAY, you can toggle through the four different Display modes:
Pre-Level: This display shows the volume of each Track before the audio passes through the fader. If
youÕre moving the faders while you watch this display, you will see no changes in the screen. This
display is good for seeing the true level of the recorded audio or Inputs.
Post-Level: This display shows the volume of each Track after the audio passes through the fader.
Unlike the Pre-Level display, when you watch this screen and move the faders, you will see the levels
change. When youÕre adjusting volume levels, this is the screen you will most likely use because it
shows you the relative output volumes of each Track as you hear it in headphones or speakers.
