INPUTc c c c TRACK Mode
When you take the VS-880 out of the box and turn it on, it will be in INPUTcTRACK Mode. In this mode,
the Inputs (on the back panel of the VS-880) are routed directly to a recording Track Ð bypassing the mixer
(faders, pan knobs, EQ, etc.) entirely. Take a look at the diagram below. Notice how the signal goes directly
from the Inputs to the Recorder. The Mixer, in this mode, is used mainly for adjusting the EQ,
listening/playback level and pan position of the recorded Tracks. Though you will hear any changes made
to the EQ, effects, and panning before or while youÕre recording, these changes will not be recorded to disk
with the audio signal.
HereÕs a diagram of how the signal flows in INPUTcTRACK Mode:

You might have noticed that the above diagram does not include effects processing. This is because
effects can be placed at more than one place in the audio chain. If you have the optional VS8F-1 Effects
Expansion Board, you can place two independent, stereo effects in three different places in the above
diagram: 1) between the EQ and the Fader (Pre-Fader), 2) after the Pan (Post-Fader), and 3) Insert which
routes the dry, post EQ signal into the VS8F-1 and then sends only the effected signal back to the fader.
We will talk about the applications of each effects configuration later. The Pre-Fader and Post-Fader
configuration options are also applicable for the AUX Busses on the VS-880. This means that you can
incorporate external effects processors into the VS-880 as well.
In INPUTcTRACK Mode, the Input/BUSS function (CH EDIT button 1) is used to route the Input signal
(back panel of the VS-880) to the desired recording Track (1 Ð 8). Any Input (1 - 6) can be setup to record
to any Track (1 - 8). In other words, Input 2 could be setup to record on Track 5. That Track is automatically
routed to its corresponding mixer channel (Track 1cmixer channel 1, Track 2cmixer channel 2, etc.) for
playback. Therefore, if weÕre recording a signal that is coming in from Input 2 and weÕre recording it onto
Track 5, the channel 5 fader will be the fader you use to adjust playback volume. The Input (record) volume
level will be adjusted with the INPUT SENS 2 knob.
