5.4 Initializing

When you connect a power supply or press the [RESET] switch, the system immediately initializes.
Note: If you re-initialize the system by pressing the [RESET] switch, all the data you entered may be lost,
depending on the specific operation performed. (A message will prompt you for confirmation to
proceed with the RESET.)
The contents of the initialization processing are given below.

Press the [Y] key to initialize user data or any other key to leave it unchanged. This message does not
appear when starting up for the first time after battery replacement, since in such cases all data needs to
be initialized.
Pressing the [Y] key or starting after battery replacement initializes user data in internal and external
RAM, as shown below.

(1) Checking the power supply voltage
The S1C88348's SVD circuit detects the power
supply voltage. If the power supply voltage is too
low, the following message appears.
Display: SHORTAGE OF BATTERY
Change it and Reset
Once this message is displayed, the system will not
perform any processing or accept any key input
other than the [Reset] switch.
(2) Measuring the OSC3 clock frequency
The system calculates the OSC3 clock frequency by
counting the number of instructions executed in a
given period and displays this value on the LCD.
This value is used to set the serial interface clock or
sound output frequency.
Display: OSC3 = 3.702 MHz
(3) Initializing the I/O registers
The system initializes the values for the I/O regis-
ters.
(4) Initializing the user data
Since initialization clears all user data, you will be
prompted with the following message for confirma-
tion when you press the [RESET] switch.
Display: Are you sure to
