O P E R A T I N G

S I N G L E T R A C E OPERATION

A l t e r n a t i n g C u r r e n t D i s p l a y
W i t h the oscilloscope i n the i n i t i a l setting condition (refer to Section 5 of C H E C K -
I N G
A N D A D J U S T M E N T P R I O R T O M E A S U R E M E N T ) , display on the C R T
screen the s i g n a l applied to the C H I I N P U T t e r m i n a l . Adjust the s i g n a l a m p l i -
tude to a n easy to measure size by changing the V O L T S / D I V control setting. T h e
C H I V A R I A B L E control m a y be rotated to change the amplitude i n continuous
fashion. H o w e v e r , i f this i s not necessary leave the setting at C A L .
N e x t , adjust the horizontal S W E E P T I M E / D I V control to a t t a i n a n easy to
measure display. M a k e sure to leave the V A R I A B L E control setting at C A L .
Whenever the w a v e f o r m begins to destabilize, i t i s necessary to use the t r i g g e r i n g
operation. R o t a t i n g the trigger L E V E L control left or r i g h t w i l l stabilize the w a v e -
form.
Depending on the type of s i g n a l , s w i t c h i n g the S L O P E control w i l l also g i v e you
clearer d i s p l a y s . T h e s e k i n d s of operations using the trigger L E V E L a n d S L O P E
control are referred to as Setting the T r i g g e r Point. T h e oscilloscope begins s w e e p -
ing from p r e - s e t trigger points.

When inputting low frequency signals or slow occurrence rate s i g n a l s , s w i t c h the
[ T R I G G E R I N G ! M O D E control to the N O R M setting. E v e n though the w a v e f o r m
display m a y disappear from the C R T screen w h e n s i g n a l amplitudes are r e l a t i v e -
l y s m a l l or the trigger point setting i s inappropriate. T h e N O R M setting w i l l
allow more stable triggering than c a n be attained i n the A U T O setting.
