Measuring
D i r e c t C u r r e n t
T h e oscilloscope's v e r t i c a l amplification i s provided b y a direct c u r r e n t amplifier
c i r c u i t characterized b y excellent s t a b i l i t y . B y s w i t c h i n g the
control to the D C setting direct current voltage c a n be measured.

A p p l y the s i g n a l to the I N P U T t e r m i n a l . Work the V O L T S / D I V a n d S W E E P
T I M E / D I V controls to display the w a v e f o r m at a n easy to see s i z e . A l s o
adjust the L E V E L control i f necessary.

Set t h e j T R I G G E R I N G | M O D E control to A U T O , a n d then set A C - G N D - D C to
G N D . T h e trace w i l l be displayed on the C R T screen. T h i s trace w i l l become
the ground potential. Work the ^ P O S I T I O N control to b r i n g the trace i n
line w i t h one of the horizontal graduation lines. Usually s i g n a l s w i t h positive
potential are lined up at the 0 % graduation a n d signals of negative potential
at the 100 % graduation.

Set the A C - G N D - D C control a t D C . T h e s i g n a l w i l l be displayed on the C R T
screen w i t h the direct current component i n t a c t . I f i n t h i s case either the
V O L T S / D I V or reference potential setting is inappropriate, the w a v e f o r m
m a y disappear from the display screen. M a k e sure to check these settings.

Measure the potential u s i n g the procedure for measuring the voltage between
two points. T h e potential s i g n w i l l be plus i f above the reference a n d m i n u s
if below the reference.

I f there is only s i g n a l to be measured, apply i t to C H I , a n d w o r k
C H 2 v P O S I T I O N control so that C H 2 displays the ground potential. I f the
MaaUWfll M O D E control is set at either A L T or C H O P after t h i s adjustment
is made, you w i l l be c e r t a i n of the ground potential throughout the
dure. H o w e v e r , m a k e certain that the ground potentials of both channels are
a l w a y s the same.
