Installing the Fan Assembly and Disk Interconnect
Board
Perform the following procedure to install the new fan assembly into the
storage tray. The steps in this procedure should be performed in the sequence
listed.
NOTE: There should be no cables routed under the fan assembly when this procedure is
completed.
1 You may have to disconnect the I/O cables from your storage devices, depending

on the configuration of your disk tray. Figure 4 shows the location of the storage
devices in the storage tray and the routing of the storage device cabling.
Disconnect the cables from the storage devices as follows:
• Devices in positions 1 and 2 - No need to disconnect the I/O cable from the
device. Drape the cable over the bezel end of the storage tray.
• Devices in positions 3 and 4 - If there are no devices in positions 3 and 4, the
dressed cable should be draped over the bezel end of the storage tray. If there
are devices in positions 3 and/or 4, the daisy-chained I/O cable should be
disconnected from the device(s) and draped over the bezel end of the storage
tray.
• If there are other cables present, but not connected to devices, they should be
draped over the bezel end of the storage tray also.
• Disconnect the power cables from any devices in positions 3 and 4.
