Symptom Problem
Hard drive has failed.
Solution
Check whether your hard drive has become
defective using the Hard Drive Self-test which is
part of your BIOS. See below.
NOTE: Use the arrow keys to move between
options and Enter key to select.
1. Restart your PC and press F10 to go into the
BIOS setup menu.
2. Under BIOS setup select Storage and IDE
DPS Self-test.
3. A window will show all available hard drives
that are on the system.
4. Use the Up and Down arrows to select the
target drive and press F10.
5. A window displays the estimated time for the
test (e.g. a 10 GB drive will take
approximately 20 minutes).
6. Press F10 to start testing.
7. The system then goes through two self-tests.
(As these tests run under BIOS the refresh on
the display is not a true indication of status.)
8. A window displays the result of the tests.
Press any key to continue. (If a drive fails
there is a signature and the drive will always
identify the failure.)
Select "IDE DPS Self-test" to re-test or test other
drive.
