system
®
PRE-SAFE
takes pre-emptive measures to
protect you in certain hazardous situations.
®
PRE-SAFE
intervenes:
in emergency braking situations, e.g. if the
R
BAS Brake Assist System is activated or the
BAS PLUS Brake Assist System intervenes
powerfully
if the radar sensor system detects an immi-

nent danger of collision in certain situa-
tions (on vehicles with DISTRONIC PLUS)
in critical situations involving driving

dynamics, e.g. if the vehicle oversteers or
understeers significantly due to physical
limits being exceeded or if the vehicle
swerves to avoid an obstacle at a speed of
over 140 km/h.
®
PRE-SAFE
takes the following measures
depending on the hazardous situation detec-
ted:
the front seat belts are pre-tensioned.
R
vehicles with memory functions: under

accident conditions, it adjusts the front-
passenger seat if it is in an unfavourable
position.
vehicles with a multicontour seat: the air

pressure in the seat side cushions and in
the backrest side bolsters is increased.
if the vehicle skids, the front side windows
R
and, on the Coupé, the panorama sliding
sunroof, are closed so that only a small gap
remains.
If the hazardous situation passes without
resulting in an accident, PRE-SAFE

side bolsters on the multicontour seat is
reduced again. All settings made by PRE-

If the seat belts are not released:
Move the backrest or the seat back slightly

until the belt pretensioning is reduced.
The locking mechanism releases.

Warning
Make sure that nobody can become trapped
as you adjust the seat.
!
Make sure that there are no objects in the
footwell or behind the seats when moving
the seat back. There is a risk that the seats
and/or the objects could be damaged.

NECK-PRO head restraints
The NECK-PRO head restraints increase pro-
tection to the driver's and front-passenger's
head and neck. To this end, the head
restraints on the driver's and front-passenger
seats are moved forwards and upwards in the
event of a rear-end collision of a certain
severity. This provides better head support.
G
Risk of injury
Head restraint covers prevent the NECK-PRO
head restraints from triggering correctly. Con-
sequently, the NECK-PRO head restraints
cannot provide the intended level of protec-
tion. Do not use head restraint covers.
If the NECK-PRO head restraints have been
triggered in an accident, you must reset the
NECK-PRO head restraints on the driver's and
front-passenger seat (

available in the event of another rear-end col-

lision. You can recognise when NECK-PRO
head restraints have been triggered by the
fact that they have moved forwards and can
no longer be adjusted.

can then be reversed.
