Chapter 2. Diagnostics

This chapter describes the diagnostic tools that are available to help you solve
problems that might occur in the BladeCenter S Types 7779 and 8886.

Diagnostic tools

Use the lightpath diagnostic LEDs and the event log to diagnose and solve
hardware related problems
In addition, you can use the advanced management module service data tool to
collect a complete set of diagnostics that can be used by IBM service personnel for
analysis. To access the service data tool from the advanced management module
Web interface, click Service Tools > MM Service Data.

Light path diagnostic LEDs

Light path diagnostic LEDs are a system of LEDs on the BladeCenter S chassis and
components that can be used to identify system errors. If the front or rear system
error LED of the BladeCenter S chassis is lit, one or more error LEDs on a
component also might be lit. These LEDs help identify the cause of the problem.
