11.4 Upper handlebar

Maintenance interval:
Before each use
● Check the upper handlebar for damage
– it is coated with an insulating layer.
Should this layer become damaged, do
not operate the scarifier and have the
upper handlebar replaced by a
specialist dealer. STIHL recommends
STIHL specialist dealers.

11.5 Scarifying unit

Risk of injury!
Worn blades may break off and
cause serious injuries. It is
therefore essential that
maintenance is always performed
as described.
Maintenance interval:
Before each use
● Tilt the scarifier upwards into the
cleaning position. (
11.2)
● Check the scarifying unit (consisting of
blade shaft, blades, nuts, washers and
spacer bushings) for wear, secure
seating, cracks or other damage.
Wear check:
The blades must be replaced when the
ground is not scored, even at the deepest
working depth (level 6). Blades must
always be replaced as a complete set.
Never re-sharpen blades.
Have defective or worn parts repaired or
replaced by a specialist dealer. STIHL
recommends STIHL specialist dealers.

11.6 Storage and winter break

● Store the scarifier as well as the
additional scarifying unit/aerator roller
in a dry and locked place that is
generally free of dust. Make sure that
the machine is kept out of the reach of
children.
● Only store the scarifier in good
operating condition, fold down the
handlebar if necessary.(
● Keep all nuts, pins and bolts tightly
fastened, replace danger signs and
warnings on the machine that have
become illegible and check the entire
machine and grass catcher box for
wear or damage. Replace all worn or
damaged parts.
● Any machine faults must be completely
remedied prior to storage.
Also note the following points when storing
the scarifier for long periods (winter break):
● Clean all external parts of the machine
with care.
● Thoroughly lubricate/grease all moving
parts.

12. Transport

12.1 Transport
Risk of injury!
Observe the section "For your
safety" before transporting. (
When transporting, always wear
7.4)
suitable safety clothing (safety
shoes, thick gloves).
Always disconnect the power cable
before lifting or transporting.
Carrying the machine:
● Always move the scarifying unit/aerator
roller to the highest position before
transport to avoid injuries and damage
to the ground. (
● Always ensure sufficient distance
between the blades/spring-tines and
your body, particularly your feet and
legs.
● Do not push or pull the machine over
elevations (e.g. steps).
● The grass catcher box must only be
used to transport scarified material.
● Carrying the scarifier alone: Lift and
carry the machine at the rear carrying
handle (1).
● Carrying the scarifier with someone
else: Lift and carry the machine at the
front carrying handle (2) and at the
upper handlebar (3) or, when the upper
handlebar is folded down, at the lower
handlebar (4).
