    User Safety This Sharp digital plain paper copier does not produce laser radiation hazardous to the user. It is certified as a Class 1 laser product under the U.S. Departm ent of Health and Hum an Services (DHHS) Radiation Perform ance Standard according to the Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act of 1968.

    Never ground it to a gas pipe, a w ater pipe, or any other object not suitable for grounding. After a suitable place has been selected for the installation of the AR-650/ 800, please do not change it. Avoid excessive heat, dust, vibration and direct sunlight. Also, provide proper ventilation as the copier emits a small amount of ozone.

    3. COPYING IN THE AUTOMATIC PAPER SELECTION MODE When the pow er sw itch is turned ON, the Autom atic Paper Selection (APS) m ode is set as the default m ode. In this m ode, if you place an original on the original feed tray or on the glass, the copier autom atically detects the size of the original, and selects paper of the sam e size as the original.

    4. ACTUAL-SIZE COPYING BY SPECIFYING THE COPY SIZE When copying irregular-size originals such as new spapers and m agazines, or originals unable to be detected in the autom atic paper selection (APS) m ode, do so by specifying the desired copy size.

    5. REDUCTION AND ENLARGEMENT COPYING There are three m ethods available for enlargem ent and reduction copying. . Using Autom atic M agnification Selection (AM S): After selecting the AM S m ode and the copy size, w hen you place an original on the glass or w hen an original is fed from the autom atic docum ent feeder, the copier autom atically detects the size of the original, and calculates the appropriate reproduction ratio.

DUPLEXED COPIES FROM SINGLE-SIDED ORIGINALS There are three m ethods of m aking duplexed copies from single-sided originals: • Using the automatic document feeder – For duplex-copying from sheet originals of the specified sizes and w eights. • Setting originals on the glass – For duplex-copying from originals that cannot be handled by the autom atic docum ent feeder.

DUPLEXED COPIES FROM TWO-SIDED ORIGINALS Placing tw o-sided originals on the original feed tray and pressing the START key feeds one of the originals and copies the first side of the original onto a sheet. The original and the sheet are then turned over autom atically and the second side of the original is copied onto the other side of the sheet.

    10. COPYING WITH COPY DENSITY SELECTION There are tw o types of exposure: autom atic exposure and m anual exposure. In the autom atic exposure m ode, the copier autom atically detects the density of the original, and selects the optim um exposure. This m ode is suitable for originals containing only text and illustrations.

    11. COPYING IN THE TEXT OR PHOTO MODE You can select the copy m ode (Photo/Text, Text or Photo) and produce clear copies m atched to the type of original. The text m ode is suitable for m aking copies of originals containing text, or text and line artw ork.

BYPASS COPYING The bypass copying m ode is convenient in the follow ing instances: • w hen the size of any of the paper cassettes installed in the copier is not that w hich you require. • w hen you w ant to use a special type of paper such as OHP film .     15. PRESETTING OF COPY MODES JOB PRESET is a feature that allow s another job to be set w hile a current job is being done. You can preset the next copy m odes during a copy run.     1. IMAGE SHIFT COPYING You can create m argins on the copy, and you can specify the position of these m argins on either the right or the left side of the copy. You can also create m argins on copies of book originals w ith just the use of the DUAL PAGE m ode.

    5. TRIMMING/MASKING This function allow s you to trim or m ask copies. You can trim originals (inside area only) by selecting the trim m ing m ode, and you can m ask originals (outside area only) by selecting the m asking m ode. You can specify areas by placing originals on the glass.

MAGAZINE SORT The m agazine sort m ode allow s you to copy and sort originals so that the copies can be folded in half along the inside as if you w ere m aking a m agazine. * The optional finisher w ith the saddle stitcher (AR-FN9) can autom atically fold the copies and staple their centers.

    13. SHEET INSERTION COPYING There are tw o m odes in sheet insertion copying w hich inserts special sheets of paper (e.g. colored paper) at the specified pages of copies. In this case, both the paper in the sheet bypass and the cassette m ust be of the sam e size and lie in the sam e direction.
