    What’s in the Box DocuMate 252 Scanner User’s Guide Welcome Your new Xerox DocuMate 252 scanner can quickly scan single- sided or double-sided stacks of documents and place their images on your computer. Before proceeding, check the contents of the box. If items are missing or damaged, contact the dealer where you purchased the scanner.

    If you already have a scanner connected to your computer, you may need to remove its driver programs to properly install and operate your Xerox DocuMate 252 scanner. Please see “Troubleshooting” on page 113 for more information, and “Uninstalling Your Scanner” on page 116 for basic instructions to uninstall driver programs.

    Step 1: Assemble the Scanner DocuMate 252 Scanner User’s Guide To assemble the scanner: 1. Remove all shipping tape from the top and bottom of the scanner. 2. Carefully remove the protective foam from the ADF cover release, then press the release and open the Automatic Document Feeder cover.

    TWAIN and ISIS—The TWAIN and ISIS drivers are installed. The One Touch 4.0 Monitor will not run and you cannot use the One Touch features. You can use the Xerox DocuMate 252 TWAIN driver to scan from applications with a TWAIN interface. You can also scan from applications that use the ISIS driver.

    DocuMate 252 Scanner User’s Guide Connect the power supply and power cord, and plug the power supply into an electrical outlet. To connect your DocuMate 252 scanner: 1. Plug the power supply into the power port on the scanner. NOTE: Only use the power supply (HEG42-240200-7L made by HiTron) included with your scanner.

    Scanning If you selected the recommended Full Install option (see page 10), then you have several different options to scan with your Xerox DocuMate 252 scanner. Each method scans equally well, so use the one with appropriate options for the item you are scanning.

You can then use the interface to change the Resolution, Scan Mode, and other settings.     You must have installed the OmniPage Pro software on your computer in order to use the OCR options with the One Touch 4.0 software and your DocuMate 252 scanner. One Touch 4.0 and OmniPage Pro work together to combine scanning with OCR processing into one integrated step.

The options on the TWAIN interface are: • Mode—Select a scanning mode: Black&White to scan in black and white. The scanning pixels are all the same size and are either black or white.

    AutoCrop to original. • AutoScan on document insertion—Your Xerox DocuMate 252 scanner includes AutoLaunch technology that senses when an item is inserted into the paper feed and starts scanning immediately. You can scan from many Windows XP applications using the WIA interface.
