Receiving FM Stations with Radio
Data System
Radio Data System allows FM stations to send an additional
signal along with their regular program signals.
This System can receive the following types of Radio Data
System signals.
PS (Program
Shows commonly known station
names.
Service)
PTY (Program
Shows types of broadcast programs.
Type)
Shows text messages the station
RT (Radio Text)
sends.
To show the Radio Data System information
While listening to an FM station...
Advanced Radio Operations
Remote
ONLY
Frequency
(Non-Radio Data System signal)
PS
Station names are displayed. "NO PS" will appear
if no signal is sent.
PTY
The broadcast program type is displayed. "NO
PTY" will appear if no signal is sent.
RT
Text messages the station sends are displayed.
"NO RT" will appear if no signal is sent.
Searching for a Program by PTY
Codes
You can locate a particular kind of program from the preset
channels (see page 16) by specifying the PTY codes.
To search for a program using the PTY codes

While listening to an FM station...
A PTY code appears on the display.

Select a PTY code you want.

Start searching.
Ex.: When "NEWS" is selected
The System searches for 30 preset FM stations, stops
when it finds the one you have selected, and tunes in to
that station.
• If no program is found, "NOT FOUND" appears on
the display.
• To stop searching any time during search, press any
button.
To continue searching after it stops on an unwanted station
While the indications on the display are flashing, press PTY
SEARCH again.
