Cleaning Bias Roller
Transfer Belt Lift
The transfer belt lift solenoid inside the transfer belt unit is switched on by job timing to raise the belt
against the drum. Springs are attached to the front of the solenoid to apply pressure in the direction of lift
to reduce the load placed on the solenoid.
Normally, the transfer belt remains separated from the drum for the following reasons:
• The transfer belt would rub the ID sensor patterns off the surface of the drum.
• Cleaning ID sensor patterns from the surface of the belt would put an extra load on the belt
cleaning mechanism.
• If the transfer belt and drum were in constant contact this would cause the materials from the belt to
stick to the drum and increase wear on both drum and belt.

Transfer Belt Drive and Paper Transport Mechanism
The drum motor drives the belt and gears that rotate the transfer belt drive roller.
• The electrostatic charge on the belt holds the paper on the belt while the drive roller drives the belt.
