Toothed components
The externally toothed components of the gear unit are casehardened. The helical gear teeth are ground;
depending on their size and transmission ratio, bevelhelical gear teeth are lapped, ground or
HPGgearcut. The high quality of the teeth leads to a significant noise reduction and ensures safe and
reliable running.
The gear wheels are joined to the shafts by interference fits and parallel keys. These types of joints transmit
with adequate reliability the torques generated.

Lubrication
5.5.1
Splash lubrication
Unless otherwise agreed in the order, the teeth and bearings are adequately splashlubricated with oil. The
gear unit thus requires very little maintenance.
5.5.2
Pressure lubrication through addon oilsupply system
In nonhorizontal positions, with high bearing speeds or peripheral velocities on the teeth, the splash
lubrication system may be supported and/or replaced with a pressurelubrication system.
The oilsupply system is permanently attached to the gear unit and consists of a flanged pump, a coarse
filter, a pressuremonitoring device and pipework. For gear units of sizes 13 to 28, the coarse filter is
replaced with a double changeover filter.
The direction of flow from the flanged pumps is independent of the direction of rotation.

A detailed view of the gear unit can be obtained from the drawings in the gearunit documentation.
The following configurations other than described in item 5.5.2 are possible:
Addon oilsupply system (fixed to the gear unit, see item 5.10.3).
External oilsupply system (fitted separately, see item 5.10.5).
In the case of gear units with oilsupply system, before starting the unit up all monitors
must be connected so as to be ready for operation.
