5.1
General description
The gear unit is supplied as a two or threestage bevelhelical gear unit. It is designed for installation in the
horizontal mounting position. If necessary, it can also be designed for installation in a different position.
Subject to agreement in the order, the following gearunit inclinations are permissible:
Longitudinal inclination:
Transverse inclination:
To ensure correct lubrication only the oil level must be increased, if the inclination values are
not exceeded.
5.1.1
Types and rotation directions
The gear unit can be operated in both directions of rotation. However, it is possible that
a certain direction of rotation has been specified in the order which is realised by
addingon a backstop or overrunning clutch.
An exception is type B3.E, which is fitted with an axial fan which is dependent of the
direction of rotation.
A number of shaft configurations (types and rotation directions) are possible. These are shown in the
following table as solid shafts: The arrows with the direction of rotation show the correlation between the
directions of rotation of the input and output shafts.

When fitting the auxiliary drive (as maintenance and/or load drive) the assignment of the
direction of rotation to the design is defined in the dimensioned drawing.
The gear units are characterised by a low noise level. This is achieved by helical and bevelhelical gears
with a high contact ratio and special sounddamping housings.
The good temperature characteristics of the gear unit are achieved by its high degree of efficiency, large
housing surface and performancerelated cooling system.
