Economical Driving Indicator
(ECONOMY)
The indicator shows the fuel con
sum ption tendency during various
driving modes.
High fuel consum ption is indicated if
the pointer moves into the red area;
economical driving is indicated when
it is in the black area. The indications
should only be compared when driv
ing w ithin the same gear.
Do not com pare fuel consum ption
readings between different gears. The
following rule applies: If you drive at
equal speeds, the fuel consum ption is
lower in the higher gear, although in
this gear the pointer is more fre
quently in the red area.
Traveling Abroad
Abroad, there is a widely-spread
MERCEDES-BENZ service netw ork at
your disposal. If you plan to travel into
areas w hich are not listed in the index
of your dealer directory, you should
request pertinent inform ation from
your authorized MERCEDES-BENZ
dealer.

Winter Driving
Have your car winterized at your
authorized MERCEDES-BENZ dealer
before the onset of winter.
•
Engine oil change: If " year-round"
multigrade engine oil is not used,
be sure to use an SAE grade
based on ambient tem perature.

Check engine coolant an tico rro
sion/antifreeze concentration.
•
Additive fo r the w indshield washer
and headlamp cleaning system :
Add MB Concentrate " S " to the
prem ixed w indshield w asher sol-
vent/anti-freeze w hich is form u
lated fo r below freezing tem pera
tures (see page 45).

Test battery: Battery capacity
drops w ith decreasing ambient
tem perature. A well charged bat
tery ensures that the engine can
always be started, even at low
ambient tem peratures.

Tires: We recom m end M + S radial
tires on all fo u r wheels fo r the w in
ter season. Observe perm issible
maximum speed fo r M + S radial
tires and the legal speed limit.
Tire Chains
Use only tire chains that are tested
and recom m ended by MERCEDES-
BENZ. Your authorized MERCEDES-
BENZ dealer will be glad to advise you
on this subject.
Chains should only be used on the
rear wheels. Adhere to the manufac
tu re r's mounting instructions.
A fter driving a short distance retight-
en the m ounted chains.
Tire chains should only be driven on
snow at speeds not to exceed
50 km /h (30 mph). Remove chains as
soon as possible when driving on
roads w ithout snow.
