direct memory access—a method by which data can be transferred to/from
computer memory from/to a device or memory on the bus while the
processor does something else. DMA is the fastest method of transferring
data to/from computer memory.

erased with an electrical signal and reprogrammed.
extended industry standard architecture
Used in the context of motion encoders. Motion encoders provide
information about movement and direction of movement of an external
device. The process of producing the pulses that contain this information is
called encoding.

The signal that controls the operation of a counter. This signal may start or
stop the operation of a counter, reload the counter, or save the results of a
counter.
